In a country where solid waste management has for many years remained a major urban management issue, Global Communities (then CHF International) developed a proposal and successfully got funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for a youth-based solid waste management intervention in the Accra Metropolis. Seen as a follow-up and drawing from the lessons of the SCALE-UP Project which was also funded by the Gates Foundation, the YES Project sought to create economic opportunities for youth along the solid waste value chain in the Accra Metropolis.
