USAID-RING

Resiliency in Northern Ghana (RING) is a 5 year integrated project and partnership effort under the Feed  the Future Initiative funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) designed to contribute to the Government of Ghana’s efforts to sustainably reduce poverty and improve nutrition in  the  region.

The  project's  goal  is  to  improve  the  livelihoods  and  nutritional  status  of  vulnerable households  in  targeted  communities  in  17  districts  of  the  Northern  Region.  Consistent with USAID Forward principles of direct support to host governments, RING is implemented through a collaborative approach with District Assemblies and the Northern Regional Coordinating Council including 6 regional departments. RING is designed to contribute to the following Feed the Future goals:

  • 25 percent decrease in stunting among children under five (CU5);
  • 20 percent decrease in wasting among CU5;
  • 20 percent decrease in underweight among CU5;
  • 20 percent decrease in anemia among CU5.

RING is working towards these goals through three complementary project components:

  1. Increased quality of food consumed by women and children by improving access to savings and loans, exploring alternative income streams, and promoting diverse nutritious crop production and consumption;
  2. Increased adoption of positive nutrition, sanitation and hygiene behaviors, especially among women and children;
  3. Strengthened local support networks, such as regional and district governments, NGOs and CBOs, and community groups, in their ability to identify and address needs related to livelihoods and nutrition.

Implementing Partners:

  • Global Communities (Prime Contractor), John Snow, Inc., Urban Institute, University for Development Studies (UDS)
  • Northern Regional Coordinating Council including 6 Regional Departments
